BLUE HERON ACRYLICS ON RED CEDAR W/RED OAK FRAME SUMMER 2023
This small work painting is based on a similar one I made on paper in the Fall of 2017. That earlier version was made as a Christmas gift to be given at the Skagit Artists Christmas get-together. The original painting was meant to be in the spirit of a Japanese wood block print. I made the frame for this painting out of red oak using pegged, hand-joined, mortise-and-tenon construction methods. I used the Japanese technique (shou-sugi-ban) of charring and oiling the oak to finish the frame. I specifically made this painting for the Matzke Gallery’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Art” 2023 show.
