GOLDFINCH & THISTLES ACRYLICS ON CEDAR W/RED OAK FRAME FALL 2020
The American Goldfinch is the state bird of Washington and the thistle is the national symbol of Scotland. A perfect combination when thinking of (and missing) our daughter Jessie: born in Washington and living in Carnoustie, Scotland. This painting is the sixth installment of my Snapshot Series; a series of small paintings highlighting some of our favorite small birds. I made the frame out of red oak using pegged, hand-joined, mortise-and-tenon construction methods. I used the Japanese technique (shou-sugi-ban) of charring and oiling the oak to finish the frame.
