The opening track on Julie Fowlis's 2014 album Gach Sgeul (Every Story) is entitled A Ghaoil, Leig Dhachaigh Gum Mhathair Mi or Love, Let Me Home to My Mother. As the liner notes tell, this is a song about a young girl who pleads with a kelpie to let her return to her mother. At first she begs the water horse but by the end of the song threatens to have her brothers kill it if he does not let her go home.
