ACRYLICS ON CEDAR W/RED OAK FRAME
FALL 2019
With the onset of fall, the hops are at their peak of full and luxurious beauty. The fruit are abundant and just starting to turn color. House sparrows love to fly into the hop “jungle” to find a safe and hidden perch. This painting is the fifth installment of my Snapshot Series; a series of small paintings highlighting some of our favorite small birds. I made the frame out of red oak using pegged, hand-joined, mortise-and-tenon construction methods. I used the Japanese technique (shou-sugi-ban) of charring and oiling the oak to finish the frame.
