CAMELLIAS IN BLOOM WOODBLOCK PRINT
INK ON PAPER
WINTER 2019
Last fall Gene Jaress of 12 Crows Studio approached me to see if I wanted to collaborate with him on a woodblock print of one of my designs.  Gene is a multi-talented artist whom I greatly admire and respect.  The level of craftsmanship of his oil paintings is infrequently matched by most painters, so obviously I was thrilled and honored to do this collaborative project with Gene.  My contribution was minimal—I was to provide the sketch for the composition, and Gene would do the printing.  We chose the design for my painting Camellias in Bloom, and reworked the drawing so that it would better fit the woodblock medium.  It wasn’t until seeing how much effort was involved with creating a woodblock print—from the carving of the multiple blocks to actually printing the work—that I further realized what a master print-maker Gene is as well as painter extraordinaire. This print is the result of Gene’s labor, and I am so lucky to be associated in some small way with its creation.  The print run will consist of two artist's proofs and a limited print run of 25 prints.
