THE FOUR SEASONS SCREEN SERIES
In 2016, I set out to paint a series of three-panel screens to celebrate each of our four seasons. There is a long tradition of screen painting in Japanese art and seasonal representations of birds, flowers, and trees in pairs of six-panel screens were often painted by the great masters of the Kano and Rimpa Schools. My screens are a blend of styles and construction which incorporate traits from Northwest Coast Native, Japanese, and Arts & Crafts traditions. All four screens have the same back painting to unify the series. Click on the image for one of the screens for more information.
