CROWS KNOW ALL ACRYLICS ON CEDAR W/RED OAK FRAME SUMMER 2023
Crows are just such interesting creatures and it is a pleasure to watch their interactions with each other. Such intelligent birds, they are absolutely packed with character and individuality. It’s good to know that they keep their eyes peeled while looking out over the neighborhood. With any distraction, they are sure to cause a ruckus. The design for my crow was influenced by a fusion of Northwest Coast Native, Celtic, and Japanese art traditions. I made the frame for this painting out of red oak using pegged, hand-joined, mortise-and-tenon construction methods. I used the Japanese technique (shou-sugi-ban) of charring and oiling the oak to finish the frame. I specifically made this painting for the Matzke Gallery’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Art” 2023 show.
